Desktop keyboard shortcuts

Every keyboard shortcut in the LastRound AI desktop app 5.0, what it does, which keys work from any app, and why the keyboard is safer than the mouse in an online assessment.

Shortcuts work from any app

The desktop app registers its shortcuts with the operating system, not only with its own window. They work while another app is in front, so you never have to click the overlay first. The one exception is Space on its own.

The Keyboard shortcuts sheet in the desktop app, with a search box and four groups: Interview, Screenshots, Window, and Stealth & Help — The Keyboard shortcuts sheet. Press ⌘/Ctrl + /, or open Settings → Help → Keyboard shortcuts.

You can be typing in a code editor or watching a video call and still capture the screen or get an answer. The mouse never has to move. ⌘ is for macOS. On Windows, use Ctrl for every ⌘ key on this page.

Find the list inside the app

Press ⌘/Ctrl + / to open or close the Keyboard shortcuts sheet. It is also under Settings → Help → Quick Actions → Keyboard shortcuts. From 5.3 it is no longer in the ⋮ menu. The sheet has a search box (try "screenshot").

Keys you may already use in other apps

While LastRound AI is running, these keys do the LastRound AI action instead of their usual one: ⌘/Ctrl + H (captures a screenshot), ⌘/Ctrl + R (clears screenshots, not a page reload), ⌘/Ctrl + L (deletes the last screenshot, not the browser address bar), ⌘/Ctrl + B (hides the overlay, not bold text), ⌘/Ctrl + Shift + I (opens Ask, not a browser's developer tools), ⌘/Ctrl + Q (quits LastRound AI, not the app in front) and ⌘/Ctrl + Arrows (move the overlay). To get these keys back, quit with ⋮ → Close App. If another app already holds a key when LastRound AI starts, that key may not reach LastRound AI.

Capturing and answering

The keys you use most during an interview. Answer sends the question you just heard plus any new screenshots. Capture only adds a screenshot to the queue.

The three Answer keys

`⌘/Ctrl + Enter`	Recommended. Works from any app, on macOS and Windows.
`⌘/Ctrl + Space`	Also works from any app. On macOS, ⌘ + Space opens Spotlight by default. It reaches LastRound AI only if you change or turn off the Spotlight shortcut in System Settings → Keyboard → Keyboard Shortcuts.
`Space`	Only when the LastRound AI window is in front. In any other app, Space just types a space.

A long question on more than one screen

Press ⌘/Ctrl + H once per screen, then Answer once. The captures are sent as one question. Each Answer sends only the new screenshots. Ones already answered are not sent again.

Follow-up shortcuts (only while the buttons show)

The buttons show under every screen answer, and under a spoken or typed answer that contains code, during an interview. These three keys work only while the buttons are on screen. The rest of the time, other apps keep them (for example, Ctrl + Shift + G and Ctrl + Shift + X in VS Code).

Online assessments: use the keyboard, not the mouse

Some assessment and coding platforms record when you click outside the test window, because the click changes which window has focus. Clicking the overlay is that kind of click.

The overlay is hidden from screen share. Your mouse pointer is not: anyone watching your screen sees it move. These keys do everything without the pointer leaving the test. Learn them before the exam.

Check the platform's rules

Every platform monitors differently, and some ban outside tools altogether. The keyboard avoids pointer movement and focus changes from clicking the overlay. It does not make any tool undetectable. Read the assessment's rules and check how screen questions and assessments are answered before you rely on it.

Starting, pausing and ending

There is no Start shortcut. Pause listening or end the session from the keyboard without touching the overlay.

Ending a session stops billing

Credits are charged from Start to End, so end the session as soon as the interview is over. The copilot guide explains how a session is billed.

On version 4.0.16 or older, ⌘/Ctrl + 1 and ⌘/Ctrl + 2 started a session. 5.0 removed them, so they now do whatever they do in your other apps.

Hiding, moving and resizing the overlay

The overlay is already hidden from screen capture. These keys are for your own screen: get it out of your eyeline, move it off the code you are reading, or make it big enough for a long answer.

The overlay's ⋮ menu open in desktop 5.3, listing Settings, Interview Setup, Account & credits, Phone mode and Close App — ⋮ → Close App quits and gives the keys back to your other apps. The shortcut list itself opens with ⌘/Ctrl + /.
