How is the last working day calculated?

Your last working day is your resignation date plus your notice period, adjusted for whether the resignation day itself counts as day one. With the "count resignation day as day 1" toggle on, the last working day is resignation date + notice days - 1, since the resignation day is already day one of the count. With it off, the notice period starts the next day, so the last working day is resignation date + notice days. Toggle it to match your employer's actual policy, since this one setting changes the final date.

Is notice period calendar days or working days in India?

Almost always calendar days, not working days. A 60-day notice period in an Indian offer letter means 60 straight days including weekends and holidays, not 60 days you actually work. This calculator follows that convention for the last working day itself, and separately shows you how many of those calendar days are working days versus weekends so you know how much office time is actually left.

What about notice period during probation?

Probation notice periods are usually shorter, commonly 7 to 30 days versus 30 to 90 days once confirmed, and are set entirely by your offer letter or HR policy, not by law in most cases. Check your appointment letter or probation confirmation email for the exact number, then enter it using the custom days field above since it rarely matches the 30/60/90 presets.

Can notice period be bought out?

Often yes. Many employers allow a notice period buyout, where you pay (or your new employer pays) a pro-rated salary amount for the days of notice you are not serving, letting you leave sooner. This is a negotiated exception, not a default, so confirm with HR whether your contract allows it and get the shortened last working day confirmed in writing before you stop showing up.
