What is the minimum notice I have to give in the UK?

GOV.UK says you must give at least a week's notice if you've been in your job for more than a month. Your contract can require more, and many do (one month or three months is common for salaried roles), so the contract figure is the one to use in the calculator.

The statutory minimums on GOV.UK are at least one week if you've worked there between one month and two years, one week for each full year between two and twelve years, and twelve weeks after twelve years. Not always. In a UK contract, "one month" usually means a calendar month, which runs to the same date in the next month, so it can be 28 to 31 days. Use the 30-day preset for a quick estimate, or enter the exact number of days to the same date next month for a precise last day.

GOV.UK says your contract will tell you whether notice must be in writing; otherwise you can give it verbally. Written notice with a date is still the safer choice because it fixes the day your notice period starts.
