UK graduate schemes pulled in an average of 140 applications per opening in 2024, up 59 percent from the year before, according to the Institute of Student Employers, as reported by TechCrunch in January 2025<\/a>. That’s the entry-level end of the market. Multiply it across every open role on LinkedIn and Indeed and you get roughly the situation candidates are applying into this year: more people, chasing the same postings, most of them running some version of AI to write the resume.<\/p>\n

So “apply to 100 jobs a week” sounds like the obvious counter-move. If everyone’s playing a volume game, out-volume them. Except recruiters and their ATS software have gotten good at spotting a resume that was clearly fired at 200 listings without anyone reading the job description first, and getting flagged as noise is worse than getting no reply at all. This is what actually works if you want to apply to 100 jobs a week without your applications reading like spam: targeting, resume-fit thresholds, tailoring that scales, and a review step nobody skips.<\/p>\n

The math behind “100 jobs a week” is usually backwards<\/h2>\n

An opinion plenty of career coaches will disagree with: 30 tightly-targeted applications a week beat 150 generic ones, almost every time, for anyone past their first internship search. Volume only helps once your targeting, resume fit, and tailoring are solid enough that a hundred sends means a hundred real shots, not a hundred rejections triggered before a human opens the file.<\/p>\n
